鎌倉「安養院」つつじの名所と北条政子

この寿福寺がある場所は、かつての源頼義が勝利を祈願したとされる「源氏山」を背にした、亀ヶ谷と言う源氏家父祖伝来の地であり、 の父・源義朝の屋敷もここにあったそうです。 そのため、源頼朝も鎌倉に幕府を開く際、最初はここを考えていたようですが、場所がちょっと手狭なのと、すでに岡崎義実が源義朝の菩提を弔う施設を作っていたこともあり、大倉幕府の場所にしたそうです。 上記は「寿福寺」の総門です。 ここから入って行けるのですが、鎌倉五山第3位でもある寿福寺の仏殿がある場所は立入禁止となっていますので、中には入れません。 なお、源頼朝が没した翌年の1200年に北条政子が創建したのがこの「寿福寺」です。 裏山に直登する階段は、崩れていて危険との事で閉鎖されているため、裏手の墓地へは、中門の前で左折して、反時計廻りに大きく歩いて、迂回することで辿りつきます。 山の「崖下」を目指してください。 上記は、 の墓です。 「やぐら」という横穴墳墓の中にて供養されています。 源実朝は北条政子と源頼朝の4男で、 の第3代征夷大将軍ですね。 ただ、源実朝は暗殺されたので、秦野にあるのが首塚とされていますので、鎌倉のは胴塚と言う事になります。 上記が北条政子の墓ですね。 他にも陸奥宗光、高浜虚子、大佛次郎など著名な方の墓があるのですが、標識などがある訳ではないので、よくわかりませんでした。 源実朝の墓と北条政子の墓は、源氏山の下にある寿福寺の裏手の墓地にあります。 分かりに行く場所ですので、下記の地図にてポイント地点を示しておきましたのでご参照願います。 この墓地からは源氏山を通って、銭洗弁天まで約400mくらいですので、時間があれば散策するのも良いです。 ただ、源氏山は心霊スポットとしても有名ですので、感度が強い方はご注意を。 私は、上記の「手掘りのトンネル？」を抜けて、鎌倉駅へと向かいしました。

まずは 北条政子についてざっくりとみていきましょう。 北条政子は、1157年に伊豆国の豪族である北条時政の長女として生をうけます。 平治の乱で伊豆に流刑となった源頼朝と恋仲になり、親の反対を押し切って駆け落ち同然で一緒になったのが20歳くらいの時でした。 その後、鎌倉に居を移した政子は鎌倉幕府の基盤作りに貢献していきます。 夫である源頼朝は、鎌倉幕府を開いた7年後に急死。 政子は出家しますが、頼朝の後を継いで二代目将軍となった長男の頼家の後見人として、執政に関与し続けます。 頼朝亡き後の鎌倉幕府に混乱をきたしたため、政子は頼家を伊豆に幽閉し、次男の実朝を三代目将軍にします。 また、父の北条時政も幽閉するなど実質的に幕府のかじ取りを行っていました。 伊豆に幽閉された頼家はその翌年に暗殺され、実朝はその15年後に頼家の息子に殺されます。 政子にはこの2人の息子以外にも娘が2人いましたが、どちらも病気で亡くなっています。 頼朝の血筋が絶えたことで、後鳥羽上皇により鎌倉に攻め入られますが、政子は尼将軍として多くの御家人を奮い立たせて勝利をおさめました。 気が強いだけでなく聡明でもあった政子は、 鎌倉幕府の一時代を支えてきた重要な人物でもあります。 北条政子のお墓は寿福寺にある 北条政子のお墓は 寿福寺の墓地にあります。 寿福寺は臨済宗建長寺派のお寺で、山号を亀谷山（きこくさん）といい、鎌倉五山第3位にあたります。 2度の火災により往時の建物は消失してしまいましたが、 境内は国の史跡に指定されています。 これから北条政子のお墓のある寿福寺についてみていきしましょう。 寿福寺ってどんなお寺？ 寿福寺のある場所は、もとは源頼朝の父である義朝の邸宅があった 源氏ゆかりの地でもあります。 頼朝が鎌倉入りしたときに最初に居を定めた地ともいわれており、最初はここに幕府を置きたいという話もあったようです。 政子はこの地への思いを受け継ぎ、 亡くなった頼朝を弔うために京都から臨済宗の開祖である栄西を呼び寄せて寿福寺を創建しています。 寿福寺の参道は桂敷きという技法で敷かれた石畳でできており、鎌倉一美しい石畳とも言われています。 ただし入れるのはこの一般参道までで、境内には立ち入ることはできません。 北条政子のお墓はどこにある？ 寿福寺の境内には入れませんが、お寺の裏側に位置する 北条政子のお墓には自由に行くことが出来ます。 寿福寺の中門の左の出口を出て、お寺を背にして道なりに2分ほど進んだところに寿福寺の墓所があります。 一般のお墓を囲む源氏山の岩肌に、まるで横穴住居のような形で やぐらが掘られており、その一番奥が北条政子のお墓になります。 やぐらという形のお墓は、横穴式墳墓と呼ばれ鎌倉時代のお墓の形です。 また、この時代の墓石や供養塔は五輪塔や宝篋印塔（ほうきょういんとう）でした。 「終活ねっと」では、終活に関する用語をわかりやすく解説した用語集を用意しています。 五輪塔についてもっと詳しく知りたい方はぜひ以下の用語記事もあわせてご覧ください。 源実朝のお墓も寿福寺にある 源実朝のお墓も寿福寺にあり、政子のお墓のすぐ近くにあります。 長男頼家の乳母は、夫頼朝の乳母を務めた比企尼の甥（のちに養子となる）の妻です。 それに対し次男実朝の乳母は政子の妹ですから実家の北条家です。 比企一族と頼家は執権を握りたい北条家と対立していましたから、頼家の暗殺には政子も一役かっていたのではないかとも言われています。 それに対して、実朝が頼家の子に殺されたのは政子にとっては青天の霹靂です。 大変悲しんだという記述も残っていますから、 手元において供養したかったのかもしれません。 寿福寺の場所・アクセス 鎌倉駅の江ノ電改札口のある西口から出て、市役所前の信号機を右折します。 そのまま横須賀線と並行する道路を10分ほど歩いたところに寿福寺があります。 実は北条政子のお墓は、寿福寺から鎌倉駅をはさんで対角に位置する 安養院にもあります。 夫の頼朝を供養するために建てた長楽寺（鎌倉市笹目）で政子も供養されていましたが、鎌倉攻めの兵火により消失してしまいました。 そのため、この地にあった 善導寺跡に長楽寺が移る形で安養院と名乗るようになりました。 その後も火災にあい、鎌倉の比企谷（ひきがやつ）にあった田代寺を移して再建されるなど、三つの寺が一緒になったという複雑な成り立ちをしています。 つつじの綺麗なこじんまりとしたこの寺は、板東三十三ヶ所観音霊場・鎌倉三十三観音霊場の三番札所にあたり御朱印もいただけます。 ちなみに安養院とは北条政子の法名で、ここには政子像も安置されています。 北条政子のお墓まとめ• 北条政子は聡明でとても気の強い女性であった• 北条政子のお墓は鎌倉の寿福寺にあり、次男の実朝のお墓もそこにある• 寿福寺にある北条政子のお墓はやぐらという形である• 北条政子のお墓は安養院にもある 実際にご遺体が埋められているのかそれとも供養のための塔なのか、諸説語られているので確かなことはわかりません。 ですが、鎌倉の歴史を1ページずつ紐解いてゆくと、何かが見えてくるかもしれません。 お花が綺麗な時季にでも、ぜひ一度訪れてみてはいかがでしょう。 最後までお読みいただき、ありがとうございました。 「終活ねっと」では終活に関する様々な記事を紹介しています。 有名人のお墓についてもっと詳しく知りたい方は、こちらをご覧ください。 カテゴリーから記事を探す• 関連する記事•
